So it's been a few months. if I start apologising then I'll just start feeling guilty, and I won't have that on my blog because that will just make me put off posting even more!

So instead of that, I'll just pick myself up and start again. Sound good?

I'm thinking I'll make a post about once a week. if it's more often than that, so be it, but once a week should be the minimum for productivity's sake.

Anyway, FYI, I've posted a couple of times over on "The Place To Be" which is a fun little themed art blog my friends put together. here is some stuff I doodled.

today was my birthday! it went pretty well, I did a few things I like doing and overall it was pretty quiet. I'll get some more presents when I fly home on sunday, yay!

I might do a drawing or two over the weekend since I am going to be leaving my tablet behind, so I may post a few times over the next few weeks. however, I'll be taking my official break on this blog after tonight!

hopefully I can come up with a few plans over christmas for how I'd like to proceed.

I'm gonna venture a guess and say that nobody decided to try out Tegaki E based on my last post. ah well, it's not for everyone. while I'm working on my laptop which has linux on it, I find it easier to use the browser based flash app than actually trying to figure out The Gimp. I guess I'm lazy or something. :(

anyway, I am studying for my HAM license exam that's on saturday morning! wish me luck!

I drew this using a website called Tegaki E. it's like a forum but each thread begins with a drawing and all replies are also in the form of drawings. I think it's a neat thing. I mean, the site is filled with teenagers, but whatever. I still think it is fun. the drawing tools are kind of challenging though.

I wish I had started drawing earlier in the night. this is just a memory of Amsterdam I have. I really liked the way they built their houses and rode bikes so much and had a bunch of boat houses and it was all pretty relaxing.

also, I pretty much approximated everything here... so it's not very accurate. like I said, I wish I had started earlier so I could have gone by some reference photos and put in more detail! ah well. such is life.

I havent been thinking much about artmaking the last couple of weeks. I think it's tuesday. probably it is. I'm adjusting to work slowly. looks like the majority of my shifts will be right early in the morning, but that's alright.

Gif animations! I wanted to draw someone talking on the phone. these are two characters from the Ace Attorney video games (agaaaain). I drew the guy first and then the girl (mostly because I wanted to have him talking to someone). she got rushed a bit. or else I'd integrate that "lookin to the right" face a bit more with the rest.

seems like when you're working on something frame by frame like that, it always seems like you've done all this work and then when you go to put it together there's barely anything there! maaaaan. feels like you're missing half of what you've drawn.

that's just the nature of the beast, I guess.

So I drew one frame and tried to trace the other two. it's pretty crazy how hard it is to make the same drawing more than once. also I am super cold right now.

I can't remember if I mentioned on the blog yet, but I got a job. my first real shift starts on monday. pretty cool, eh? I was getting really low in funds there for a while. yikes.

There's an animation event happening this weekend. anybody round these parts (Halifax!) should check it out. :) http://films.nfb.ca/get-animated/halifax.php I am going to the one on monday! also maybe the other one.

and lastly, the H1N1 flu shots are going to be approved soon. I think most of us will have access to them in the first few days of November. I'm calling my doc tomorrow to get me a tentative appointment. please consider doing the same, you guys. I care about youuuuuu.

So I was working on this and yeah. it ended up looking not real great! it's got 14 frames, and I didnt put it all together till the very end. however, I spent a bunch of time on it so I'm going to post it today anyway!

I'm not really sure what the next step forward should be. I've been thinking about it a lot in the last couple of days. I think what I'll be doing is writing. I want ideas, so I should make them. I complain a lot about not knowing where to start or how to write, but I don't actually sit down and try it. I just talk about it. so I'm going to see if I can just come up with plausible ideas to start with, and then (here's the crucial part) actually deliver on making them into something.

I think I might take a couple of steps backwards art-wise and do more scribbly stuff until things feel a little better. a little easier. I want to make something worthwhile, and the more I read things by different comic artists and editors, the more I realize nothing is going to just snap into place to motivate me, and that people are out there doing what I want to do on their own motivation.

And here's the final thing: what DO I want to do? how do I pursue it if I don't know even that? how do I seek advice on how to move forward if I can't answer that for people? I've been sitting around with my little dollop of talent waiting for some kind of "opportunity" to pick me up and bring me somewhere great, but honestly, that's not how it works.

I'm interested in comics and animation, and maybe even video game art. that's pretty broad. you all know how I want to do it all and try everything. however, it seems like I'm stuck doing the same one-scene things every day, or just doodling. I don't draw any comics or make anything animated, do I? I don't make finished, polished, coloured drawings, either.

What brought on this rant is reading a manga called "Bakuman" about two boys who want to become big names in the manga world in Japan. You can just feel their intensity and excitement and anguish... and that's how it should be, right? sigh.

does anyone else have this problem? man, once 9:00pm or so hits, I am hoppin. if I'm up trying to get something done during the afternoon though, it's nearly impossible. I don't understand it.

In pasadena now. Unsure of how I will be updating the rest of this week. I was thinking about cutting this strip into one frame per day, but it's not really good enough. <_< so I guess we'll see what happens.
(also I wish I could think of things to make into small stories or strips. a;sdflkasdjf.)
